OUR HISTORY

Welcome to Borradale Stanley, where history meets luxury on the pristine Green Hills of Stanley, Northwest Tasmania. Nestled on a 163-acre beef property bordered by serene beaches,   offers a unique blend of rural charm and contemporary comfort.

Originally inhabited by the First Nations “Peerakka” people, the land transitioned to the Van Diemans Land company in 1825 before being farmed by the Borradale family as tenants. The Trethewie family, who acquired the property in 1916, were its first freehold owners until 2009, leaving behind a rich heritage that resonates through the landscape.

In 2016 Craig and Melinda purchased the property, embarking on a journey to restore its legacy. Over seven years, they have enhanced infrastructure and sustainable farming practices, now raising Cape Grim beef and managing sheep to nurture the land.

The heart of Borradale is its lovingly restored homestead, built in the 1920’s which expanded upon a historic two-room cottage from the 1800s. In 2020, the Dwyer family commenced a meticulous restoration project, culminating in May 2024 with a beautifully appointed residence boasting four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen ideal for savouring local Tasmanian delicacies.

Borradale Stanley isn’t just accommodation—it’s an invitation to experience life on a working farm. Inspired by a 2021 government grant promoting agritourism, Craig, a rural veterinarian of over 25 years, and Melinda, a registered nurse, along with their three sons, offer guests a glimpse into sustainable farming practices and a deep respect for the animals that sustain us.
